Community Service
Community Service is at the forefront of Rotary activities. The members of the Community Service Committee, respond to local community needs by carrying out working bees and projects or funding activities so others can grow and develop. The main focus is on community development, rather than individual development.
Over the years, the Committee has provided funding to the
- Social Organisation for the Handicapped to fund bands for entertainment throughout the year
- "Adopt-a-Family" program at Christmas
- Victorian Bushfire Appeal
- Christ Church Meals for the homeless and destitute
The committee together with other club members have:
- Catered at Christ Church Meals
- Landscaped Samaritan House
- Planted trees for a bird corridor between Lara and Ballarat
- Annually take part in Arbour Day (Geelong Boat Ramp and Eumeralla Scout Camp)
In addition this committee recognises a person who has contributed to the development and welfare of the community. This is done through the RJ Vague Award, named after the late Bob Vague, a Charter Member of The Rotary Club of Geelong East. The awardee receives a cheque for $500.00 to go to the charity of their choice.
