Last Week's Program

David Sykes was our chair for the evening for our AGM and Club Assembly.

We welcomed Laurent Franklin to membership of our Club in the classification of Building Contracting Services.

We conducted our Annual General Meeting with much movings (the shakings came later at the Club Assembly) and the required quantity of secondings.

There were plentiful, pleasantly-put and productively placed points of order.

Our team for 2018-2019 is David Sykes (President), Tony Alsop (President Elect), Club Secretary (Jenny Acopian), Service Projects chair (Janine Koch), Fundraising chair (Yannick Le Grand) and Rotary Foundation chair (Ross Taylor)

There are some unfilled positions (Vice President, Director of Membership and Director of Public Relations) and members are encouraged to consider taking them up for next year.

Club Assembly
On the membership front, are there members who would prefer that someone other than they approach prospective members?

The Hamburger Stand is an important issue and Adrian spoke very well on the subject.

The Club needs members who can take on an assistant role to understand what is involved.

We need a staffing co-ordinator or two - those who can put out the rosters, following up and get the rosters filled 2 weeks prior.
Before the Club takes up a catering task, the Club needs to be confident that it can do the job and has the staffing to do it.
The Hamburger Stand is our major fundraiser and we have developed a huge amount of goodwill over the years with the Agricultural Society.
Adrian and John are developing a manual of procedure which will be of great assistance and will support and inform those within the Club who can step into the roles which John and Adrian have performed so well for so long.
Hamburger Stand funds are untied meaning we can spend them on what we elect to do.
The Hamburger Stand funds we earn represent great return on the effort expended and David Sykes reckons it is $25.00 per hour.

Christmas is Coming

We will have our Christmas dinner (2 courses) with partners and guests on 12 December at The Hub and the following week (19 December) will be our family function and our final meeting for the calendar year as usual at the Showgrounds.

For the 19 December event, those with youngsters may wish to bring a wrapped and named present for them at a value up to $10.00.

December 12 is a Kris Kringle with everyone to bring a gift of up to $10.00 (members, partners and guests).

Can Youse Help The Sues with Whooz?

Sue Dunlop is standing in for Sue Beretta as WhoozIn guru for the next few weeks.

It will help the Sues out greatly if replies are in by 6.00 pm Sunday but things do change overnight so as soon as possible in the morning if a change is required.

The deadline for the Hub is 11 am Monday and after that is a bit messy.

Sue B has work and has to fit in reminders, texts and emails in around her paid employment. Sue D is retired and has to fit in access the phone, internet etc around the deadline – and is often not around after the numbers are sent in.

Thanks for your support and assistance with this.

DID YOU KNOW NOVEMBER 28TH IS KNOWN AS GIVING DAY TO THE ROTARY FOUNDATION?

So this message arrives at a significant time in the Rotary Year.

Let's start with the good news - Val and I are back from our rail trip from South Geelong to Nambour and back and now starting to arrange sending members' six monthly donations to The Rotary Foundation (TRF) in Parramatta.

Many of you add a donation to your dinner fees with the intention of annually reaching AU$100 to achieve Centurion Status or the equivalent of US$100 to maintain your "Every Rotarian, Every Year" level while others  make contributions when my intentions to forward donations become known.

I will be receiving details of your donations from Treasurer Michael after the 28/11 meeting and will then email members as usual to confirm their progress totals and ascertain whether they wish their donations to go to The Annual Programs Fund or PolioPlus.

If we can act promptly, it may, in spite of my later than usual start this year, still  be possible to have those donations credited by TRF by the end of December.

Yours in Rotary Service,

Eddie

Make a note to attend an evening of fine music and wonderful voices at 5.00 pm on Saturday 2nd December at All Saints Church in Newtown.

Rotary Club of Kerang - Easter Art Show

Next Easter, which is approaching fast, March 30th – April 1st 2018, the Rotary Club of Kerang will be holding its 5th annual Easter Art Show.

We will once again be having an Easter category to be sponsored and judged by our Gannawarra Cluster of Ministers, the theme they have set is ‘Joy and Hope in Faith’. Hopefully this pre-warning will get some creativeness happening and so increase the impact of this category.

Entry forms will be sent out in early January, so if you know of anyone who wishes to be on our mailing list, email or post please get them to drop us a line. We would prefer email but are aware there are some who prefer the postal service, and so we will continue with postal mail outs.

Club Secretary Jenny and Bulletin Editor Peter have more information.

Shine On awards

Graham Thomson has nomination forms for the Shine On awards and can provide details of eligibility.

R.J. Vague Award
James Dunlop on behalf of the Community Service Committee is looking for nominations for the R.J. Vague Award.

The award is named after Bob Vague, a Charter Member of The Rotary Club of Geelong East.  The recipient receives a cheque for $500.00 to go to the charity of their choice.

The recipient will

  • be of good character.
  • have served the community well, over an extended period of time.
  • reflect Rotary’s values and ideals, particularly ‘service above self’.
  • not necessarily be a Rotarian.

Ballarat South Raffle
James Dunlop is organising the roster for our Club's sale of the Rotary Club of Ballarat South raffle tickets.
Members are asked to indicate when they can help out.
If you can assist, please contact James.
We have earned over $1,200.00 so far on the sale of tickets and there are lots of opportunities to sell as we approach the festive "spend-sive" season.

Barwon Health Volunteers
James has invitations for 2 to attend the Barwon Health Volunteers celebration at the Batesford Hotel.
See James or Jenny if you would like to attend.

Wine tasting on 9 January...Wine not?
This will be an opportunity to sample some great wines and perhaps replenish the cellars after the festive season.
More details to follow.
