Last Week's Program

Our Meeting of 25 June
Peter Funston was our chair for the evening.
We welcomed Janine Koch back from her overseas trip and we were very happy to have Robyn Campbell back with us as she continues to improve after her fall.
President David thanked David Beretta and Michael Carroll for doing the St. Albans Football Club gate duty under our Club’s volunteer roster.
The Club has received a letter of thanks from the “Sailability” program at the Royal Geelong Yacht Club for the donation from our recent dinner auction.
President David announced that the new Club award named in honour of our esteemed member and great friend Past President Bill Pratt and which recognises the enthusiasm and commitment of a member of our Club of five or fewer years membership (“the Bill Pratt Encouragement Award”) will be bestowed on the inaugural recipient at our Change Over next week.

Member Talks
Jenny Acopian and Peter Gillham gave us a little insight into their respective backgrounds.
Jenny is a proud Geelong girl who has traced her family back 5 generations in Geelong and the Port Philip District (later the colony of Victoria).
A foundation student of Belmont High School, Jenny went on in recent times to write the school’s history.
Jenny studied teaching and spent time teaching in Canada and was a Rotary Ambassadorial Scholar in Nashville, Tennesee.
She has worked in education all her life and is now at the Deakin University in the School of Medicine.
Both Jenny and Peter attended the University of Melbourne.
Peter has been in legal practice since coming to Geelong in 1979 and works in the areas of family and property law, probate and estate planning.

Vocational Visit and Pride and Professionalism Award
A number of Rotarians including Honorary Member Pam Mott attended the presentation of the Club’s Pride & Professionalism Award to the Andrew Love Cancer Centre (“ALCC”) last Thursday.
We were made very welcome and met with members of the medical, nursing and administrative staff who work so hard with the invaluable support of many volunteers to make this facility one of the very best providers of cancer services in Australia and indeed in the world.
A number of our members who have experienced first-hand the exemplary level of care and support which the Andrew Love Cancer Centre provides nominated the ALCC for the award.
We were welcomed by Associate Professor Philip Campbell, the Director of Cancer Services head of medical oncology.
Our Club’s Vocational Service Committee, Laurent Franklin, outlined the principles behind our Pride and Professionalism Award.
Shane Brasier who is the Operations Manager accepted the award for the radiotherapy division which was presented by Jenny Acopian and Dr.Madhu Singh accepted the award on behalf of the medical oncology section of the ALCC from Stan Deans.
Rotarians were then able to take a tour of the facility with Fiona Chipperfield and her colleague Janine.
Apart from recognizing the great work of the ALCC, it was an opportunity to demonstrate our Club’s community credentials and perhaps gain a new member or two?
Below is the URL for the Barwon Health Facebook page that has the photo and brief article.
