Last Week's Program

Suzanne Beretta was our chair for the evening and we welcomed Katherine Sykes and our guest speaker Paul West.

The Mark West Foundation
Our guest speaker, Paul West, is the elder brother of Mark West.
Mark’s death at the age of 19 whilst playing football in 1998 and the wish of family and friends to recognise and continue his work to assist children to participate in team sport was the catalyst to the establishment of the Mark West Foundation.
The Foundation aims to address the difficulties which some families face in funding children’s sporting activities and engages with charities to identify children in need and works with the AFL and Geelong Football Club and the very generous donors across the business and general community to provide an opportunity for physical activity in a structured setting.
The scholarship recipients are not identified in order to respect their privacy and the privacy of their families and the Foundation’s support is delivered in a deliberately “low key” manner.
The Foundation has so far put $135,000.00 into the support of youth in sport and operating with no overheads ensures every dollar donated finds its way to the kids.
Paul explained how the Foundation learns of so many families in difficult circumstances and how tough it is having, as must always be the case, to refuse very worthy applications.
We wish Paul and the Foundation all the best in its work.
Our Club to date has funded 6 to 8 scholarships from the $1,500.00 earned by the members of our Club who have volunteered their time at the gate for the St. Albans Football Club matches this season.
