Last Week's Program

We welcomed Honorary Member Joan Beretta and PDG Stephen Lamont.

And welcome back to David Beretta.

Acting President Tony Alsop announced the Science and Engineering Challenge winning schools and North Geelong won the Unbustable Bridge award.

Many thanks to the members who helped  out over the period of the Challenge and Peter Funston insists that his team's success last Thursday night was a fluke and not years of experience emptying cups...or glasses.

Jenny advised us that we have helped Newcomb Park Primary School with books via a District Grant and is working with The Bluebird Foundation to construct marimbas.

The Socks have been delivered and we have an indigenous scholarship recipient in the health field at Deakin University who we look forward to attending our Club in the future.

From Medicine to Martini

PDG Stephen Lamont was our guest speaker and told us the inside story of the evolution of life from DGE, DGN, DG and through to PDG.

The journey was filled with great people, the support of his spouse Gaye and his Club and the joy of Rotary service.

Stephen took us through the process from humble pharmacist (with a licence to fill) through Being Bold in the AM (Aston Martin).
We are indebted to Stephen for his dedicated service to Rotary in our Geelong community, our District and Rotary International.

Defying The Drift
Stan Deans reminded us that The Defying the Drift program will be held at the end of September this year.
It is a Sunday to Wednesday residential program this year at Horsham.
It aims to keep young people in rural communities by demonstrating the employment opportunities in their home area.
Stan Deans reminded us that we seek Year 10 & 11 students to attend the course and inspire them to take a career in agriculture, horticulture or animal husbandry.
Think about the growers.

Tree Planting Day
Peter Funston advise that we are tree planting again this year and the date is 29 July, likely at the same location as next year.
Peter will provide more details.

Youth Exchange
Anyone can host provided they have a Working with Children check and submit to a home inspection. See Kris Adam if you would like to host.
Our District is highly regarded internationally for its management of youth exchange.

Rotaract Club of Barwon Change Over

An invitation has been received from the Barwon Rotaract Club to its Changeover Meeting to be held on Friday, 13th July, 2018 at The Deck, 2 Gheringhap Street, commencing with dinner at 7.00pm.

Geelong East Rotary Club inducted the Deakin University Rotaract Club in the 2006-2007 Rotary year.  Since then, our Club and the Barwon Rotaract Club, as it is know now, has had a very close and productive association.

It would be good if half a dozen of our members could be present at the Barwon RC Changeover.  The RSVP is barwonrotaract@gmail.com by 10 July, 2018. (No underscore.)

PDG Eddie expresses his appreciation of the support and cooperation of members who have contributed to TRF this year, a total of $4,519, made up of $1,457 to the APF and $3,062 to PP;  remembering that when Bill and Melinda Gates add $2 to every dollar we donate to PP, that figure becomes $9,186.
