Last Week's Program

David Beretta was our chair for the evening.
We welcomed Past President Anna Fletcher.

Conventional Wisdom
President and First Lady Liz told us of the Rotary Convention in Toronto.
Our Club had 5 Rotarians in attendance and all of whom had been "drinking age verified" and tagged accordingly.
Each day started with a great breakfast and seating 26,000 people was quite a task...actually, seating 26,995 people was easy...it was our Famous Five who confounded the Rotary wranglers by their insistence on celebration and demonstration of their "DAV" status!
Lots of entertainment with our Australian RI President Ian Riseley keep Oz in the limelight.
Princess Anne congratulated Rotary for its work in polio and other speakers included Laura Bush and New Zealand former prime minister Helen Clark and Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau.
It was an inspiring Convention and an affirmation of the good work we as Rotarians do in our day to day lives.
There was a vast array of educative and social sessions and panel sessions with Rotarians and Rotaractors looking to the future of our organization.
There were stands for the broad sweep of Rotary fellowships across vocational, sporting and other interest groups.
There were Rotarians from our District amongst the thousands in attendance.
David attended membership sessions and has brought back ideas we can consider in developing our membership.
We are encouraged to attend a Rotary Convention at some time but our own District and multi District Conference can provide considerable opportunities for friendship and exchange of ideas....can we have DAV wristbands too?

Announcements, News and Help Required

Quick.....scarfer!
Peter Cook has boxes of scarves now untagged which we can give away to any good cause but we must disclose that they are faulty...the scarves, not the causes.

Don't (or Do) Be Badgered
Tony Alsop announced that there are some excellent Rotary badges to protect us from fines. Buy one.....or two...and be saved.

Christ Church Meals
Bill Bailey on behalf of Jenny Acopian is looking for 5th Monday volunteers for the Christ Church Meals project on 30 July.

Increased Meal Cost

Just a reminder to members that the single course will be $28.00 per head and $33.00 per head for 2 courses and wine will be $9.00 per glass.
Options for other perhaps less costly meal arrangements will be explored by the Board for consideration by the members.

Smile for Satbir
Our Club's Chief Photographer Satbir Chug has a vast array of Club photos on his home-based server and can provide members with an app which allows password-protected access to this treasure trove of high quality photographs.
See Satbir for more information.

Defying The Drift
The Defying the Drift program will be held at the end of September this year.
It is a Sunday to Wednesday residential program this year at Horsham.
It aims to keep young people in rural communities by demonstrating the employment opportunities in their home area.
Stan Deans reminded us that we seek Year 10 & 11 students to attend the course and inspire them to take a career in agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry or perhaps forestry which in turn reminds us about.....

Tree Planting Day
Adrian Innes reported on behalf of Peter Funston that 9.00 am on Sunday 29 July off Rennie Street in the Pound Reserve will be tree planting.
Bring gloves and sensible footwears.
Peter Funston has sent out an email to all members with the precise location courtesy of Ye Olde Melways.
