Last Week's Program

Adrian was our chair for the evening and we gave our undivided attention to Acting President Tony Alsop.

We welcomed back Bill Pratt and Stan Deans....both looking fitter and finer than ever before.

Introducing...….Mark Grant
Our fellow Rotarian Mark Grant has a most interesting family history with links to the early navy.
Mark grew up on Thompson Road which over the years turned from country to cosmopolitan.
Mark's parents still live there.
Mark recalls eating lots of bream and duck sandwiches and blackberries.
He remembers duck hunting back then as an orderly and safe adventure for parents and children....with cribbage prevailing...although one would have assumed that pontoon or bridge would have featured.
Mark spent a lot of time with his uncles and shares his father's love of words.
Mark worked in welding, had a stint at the abattoirs and then into food and then back to boiler-making and welding.
Saxophones have been a great love for many years and after a break from performing now is blasting it out with The Rusty Nuts.
We enjoyed Mark's story immensely and we look forward to sharing the friendship and service opportunities which Rotary offers with Mark, Michelle and their family for many years to come.

The Rotary Club of Epworth
Frank Pinder has booked out the entire 3rd floor for his rehabilitation celebration and we are all invited to attend and admire the view.

Progressive Dinner in progress
The progressive dinner will be scheduled for after the football season.

Defying The Drift
Stan Deans reminded us that The Defying the Drift program will be held at the end of September this year.
It is a Sunday to Wednesday residential program this year at Horsham.
It aims to keep young people in rural communities by demonstrating the employment opportunities in their home area.

Tree Planting Day
Peter Funston advise that we are tree planting again this year and the date is 29 July, likely at the same location as next year.
Peter will provide more details.

Youth Exchange
Kris Adam advised us that we will be hosting a male Swiss exchange student and anyone can host provided they have a Working with Children check and submit to a home inspection.
Our District is highly regarded internationally for its management of youth exchange.

The Book of Entertainment
This was omitted from the Old Testament due to a printer's error...
Eighty-two Entertainment Books and around 10  apps have been sold.
Well done to all those who have bought and sold.
Keep a note of those to whom you sold EBs this year as they will be keen to get hold of one next year.
Many thanks to Graeme Fleet for co-ordinating this excellent fundraising activity again this year.

PDG Stephen Lamont to speak to Geelong East

The role of District Governor is a special one within Rotary.  The person is the conduit between Rotary International and the Rotary clubs within the District.

Past District Governor, Stephen Lamont is to speak to The Rotary Club of Geelong East about the role and responsibilities.  Stephen will also outline the requirements, skills and character of a good Governor.

Join us on 19th June, to hear this insightful speaker and learn more about a part of Rotary most don’t get to experience.

Don't Hock Your Socks......Donate Them!

Kardinia RC is asking for community assistance in providing socks for the homeless, coming into Winter. This is a great way to finish off the rotary year with a local community project that won't take up much time or effort and we would be making a real difference to a lot of people in need of something as basic as a pair of socks.

The closing date for the collection of socks at our club is June 20th.
