You can take part...or pay not to...either way, you can support this most important cause.

Rotary Club of Kerang - Easter Art Show

Next Easter, which is approaching fast, March 30th – April 1st 2018, the Rotary Club of Kerang will be holding its 5th annual Easter Art Show.

We will once again be having an Easter category to be sponsored and judged by our Gannawarra Cluster of Ministers, the theme they have set is ‘Joy and Hope in Faith’. Hopefully this pre-warning will get some creativeness happening and so increase the impact of this category.

Entry forms will be sent out in early January, so if you know of anyone who wishes to be on our mailing list, email or post please get them to drop us a line. We would prefer email but are aware there are some who prefer the postal service, and so we will continue with postal mail outs.

Club Secretary Jenny and Bulletin Editor Peter have more information.

Hamburger Happenings

John Birrell advised that we raised over $1,000.00 at the Dog Days at the Showgrounds over the weekend.

There is a Horse Event coming up on 25 & 26 November when we can make a significant addition to what he took at the Geelong Show.

Sausage Sizzlers Wanted
From the Senior Sausage, Kris Adam
This coming Thursday (Nov 23rd) we have the opportunity to assist one of our local schools with a fundraising Sausage Sizzle!
Tate Street Primary School is launching a new paly ground and have asked us to sell our legendary sausages from 4:30 to 7:30pm. John and Adrian will have everything set up so all we need is six to seven cooks and servers.
If you are able to give us the whole 3 hours or even part there of, it would be greatly appreciated by me and the Youth Committee.
Please let John (0418 587 248) or Adrian (0429 051 181) know.
Cheers,
Kris.

The Numbers Game
The deadline for numbers to The Hub is now Monday at 11.00 am.
Members are asked to give their RSVPs via Whoozin by 6.00 pm Friday
By keeping our catering numbers as accurate as possible, we don't waste Club funds.

Our Annual General Meeting - Club Roles and Committees
The 21 November is our AGM and members are encouraged to express an interest in taking a club position in the 2018-2019 Rotary year.
David is seeking our input into the 2018/19 year, our preferences and assistance on committees and club roles.

The Director Roles are elected at the AGM, but other positions are placed prior to the first ordinary meeting in the new 2018/19 year.

Please consider accepting roles, particularly as Directors or Chairs, as an opportunity to assist Rotary, as well as personal fulfilment and development. Training and mentoring will be available to assist those who take up the challenge.

NOVEMBER FOUNDATION REPORT - from Rotary Foundation Committee chair, Past President Ross Taylor
SOUP SAVER MEETING:
A most successful Soup Saver meeting was held at the East Geelong Uniting Church, last Tuesday, 7th November, 2017.  Some 59 were in attendance including our three Honorary members, five Rotaractors including the President and Vice President of the Barwon Rotaract Club and a number of guests and partners.  The amount of exactly $1,000 was raised towards the End Polio Now program.  The keynote speaker for the meeting was Gary Newton, a well-known radio and television presenter, who, in an insightful and thoughtful presentation, spoke of living for 60 years with the effects of polio.   The Club event used the occasion to both recognise World Polio Day on 24th October as well as Foundation Month which is recognized on the Rotary calendar in November.  Participants enjoyed a choice of four homemade soups, buns, crusty bread, slices, birthday cream cake and coffee, tea & water.

FOUNDATION GOALS FOR 2017-2018:
The Board has decided to pursue a Presidential Citation for this Club, for this Rotary year.  If achieved, it would be a wonderful accolade for the goals and work achieved across a range of areas undertaken by the Club members.
For example, the Foundation Committee is looking at partnering with TRF in sponsoring at least one project funded by a global or District Grant.  Another goal may be to attain a minimum Annual Fund contribution of US$100 per capita.  Yet another goal would be to promote a community event to support World Polio Day.  In all the Foundation Committee needs to achieve 4 preordained goals to achieve its target.  All other major committees have goals to achieve also.  I am acting as a Club facilitator to assist Directors and Committees achieve their targets.

RELEGATING POLIO TO THE HISTORY PAGES:
RI President, Ian Risley, set out in October’s Rotary Down Under, what is required to completely eradicate polio from the face of the earth.  Although the number of cases of polio are down to just a few in 2017, from an estimated 350,000 a year thirty plus years ago, we must reach zero cases and stay there for three years.  Some $US7 billion is required by 2020 to fully eradicate the dreadful disease.  This means there is a funding gap of $US300 million.  The Bill & Melinda Gates 2 for 1 subsidy will be extremely helpful but we all still must work hard to achieve this goal.  The Ride the Bellarine event on 15 April, next year is just one way to contribute to this cause.

RI ANNIVERSARY DAY 2018
The anniversary of Rotary, falls on the 23 Feb, next year.  The Foundation Committee is exploring ways of celebrating this anniversary (which will fall on Tue 20th Feb, 2018 if it is to be on a regular meeting date) as a way of celebrating the anniversary and perhaps raising a little more money for Polio Plus.

CATCHCRY:
Coming out of the Atlanta Convention, held earlier this year, is a catchcry in the immediate years ahead for the End Polio Now keywords.  It is COUNTDOWN TO HISTORY.
